Senior Management Training for Yemen Microfinance Network

This online capacity-building program trained 50 CEOs and senior managers from microfinance institutions across Yemen, delivered remotely in partnership with the Yemen Microfinance Network (YMN) and the Social Fund for Development (SDF). Running fully online, it equipped leaders to manage their teams and institutions effectively at a distance.

The program ran across two complementary tracks — Effective Remote Supervisory & Management Skills and Effective Productivity Remotely — alongside a certification pathway for microfinance consultants accredited by the Network.

Training Highlights — Remote Management Skills

• The four core functions of management: planning, organizing, leading & coaching, and oversight by results.
• Planning with monthly work plans, checklists, and clear expected outputs.
• The seven rules of effective delegation — from choosing the right person to documenting expectations and following up.
• Motivating remote teams: recognize progress (not just results), trust staff to manage their time, and use non-financial incentives.
• A six-step method for solving problems remotely: define the challenge clearly, focus on the solution, and agree clear next steps.
• Adapting your management style — autocratic, democratic, supportive, and more — to the situation and the person.

• Manage your own expectations and prepare a dedicated, distraction-free workspace.
• Set fixed working hours with breaks, and rules that can't be broken.
• Organize a monthly work plan reviewed weekly with your manager, and a daily task list kept in view.
• Communicate with intent: ask open questions, listen to understand, and request feedback weekly.
• Build daily “small wins” habits — routine, exercise, reading, gratitude, and staying connected — to sustain energy and focus.
• Self-discipline is the foundation: after 21 days, consistent practice becomes habit.
